While construction would be huge for emissions, I would guess the most emissions would come from the mining, transport, refinement, and disposal efforts for the fuel on an ongoing basis.
Lots of good conversation occurring in this post, but I wanted to call out a bit of nuance on the study that is being glossed over.
The study author’s argument isn’t against methane or even fracking per se. Its against the extra pollution from EXPORTING methane by ships.
I would paraphrase the study author’s position more clearly as: “A ship full of coal produces less pollution than a ship full of liquid methane because of all the leakage and energy needed to make that ship full of methane then back to burnable natural gas”
While the study author does call out leaks and inefficiencies in the extraction of methane, the numbers at that point don’t make coal more attractive. His contention on that only comes when you have to do all the extra work and energy to make it exportable, then consumable at the other side.

I believe these antics hurt the advocacy for taking climate change seriously. Their vandalism protests confirm in the minds of the opposition that “climate change is fake because the ‘soup throwers’ are the ones driving it.”.
Its similar to how vegans are dismissed not for their choices in diet but because of how they advocate others to do the same. People that want to go vegan have to do so in spite of the perception the most vocal vegans have created. Instead of accelerating adoption it creates a new barrier. Note, I’m not a vegan. See, I have to say that so I’m taken seriously in this response. That is how bad public perception of veganism is because of its most vocal advocates.

I’m way past 30 now. I’m no gym rat but do go a few times a month. This year is when I noticed that my ability to lift a heavy weight isn’t lack of muscle but instead strain on knees (and other joints). Its such an odd notion that I can feel my muscles extra unused capacity to lift, but I feel the risk of injury to the joint if I were to use that strength. I had never experienced that before this year. Before it was always the limits of my muscles. Not anymore.
Nobody told me this is how it goes when you get old. They say things like “my knees ‘gave out’ when I got old” but didn’t explain what that meant.

Look into some history of India, as a sovereign nation, and how they were treated by the West for most of the 20th century. The Soviet Union was a much needed friend to India when the rest of the West turned their back after the British were kicked out. I don’t blame India for some of the continued engagement with russia. However, Ukraine was also part of the nation (Soviet Union) that helped India, and I’m not seeing weigh positively for Ukraine. I say this as an American. The West (including the USA) has done some pretty messed up stuff to other nations in the 20th century.
