What happens when infosec is an afterthought, brought to you by management, almost always by management. Most of my gigs throughout my career have been because of this (infosec guy).
The rest of my career has been when management is throwing money at the problem(s), usually right after an incident. Sometimes you get lucky and it’s in response to some other entities incident.
Last minute improbable solutions to other people’s long term impossible problems.
I … I don’t have any of these problems…
Am I missing out on shit? Have I Grandpa Simpsoned?
Download the live disc images of Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Arch blah blah etc etc etc.
Distrowatch.com is a great resource.
Take them for a test drive before you commit.
If this is your 1st forlay into Linux and you just wanna ride, do yourself a favor and install Mint. It works, and it’s a great way to get into it easily and painlessly and operates (mostly) how you would expect it to coming from another OS.
Welcome
No link, we didn’t publish the work.
Debian, add Mint, Backbox, Opencpn, Navigatrix, Marinux, Mozilla, Kismet and several other depots. It’s a monster at the end and I have to pay attention when updating and booting, but it gets all the jobs done for me all of the times.
A hacker group in Seattle (GHI) years ago attempted to build secure systems on top of compromised hardware. Although different levels of security could be achieved, the overall outcome was No. You cannot build a fully secured system on top of compromised hardware.
A VPS for this exercise counts as ‘compromised’ hardware.

Have you perused Distro Watch?
Lots of good info & news, and info on just about every distro there is, stuff you’ve never heard of. Years and years ago this was my introduction to FreeNAS that made a huge difference in my life. You should check it out if you haven’t already.

I’ve used Lets Encrypt for years and years, in fact it’s been at least 6?. LE with the encryptbot?, automate the entire process, and then completely forget about it until someone posts on Lemmy asking about it.
It’s been long enough I’ve forgotten the proper names of the software and I would have to go back through my notes to recreate it.
Just checked the logs and it’s fine.
Don’t pay for shit.

I don’t understand why you are attacking me …

A long time ago when I handed off my duties when leaving, my replacement (in house) was absolutely astonished at how little I was doing. I had taken the global fleet of bar/retail/hotel/restaurant/office printers (minus properties in China) from around 30% of total being OOS to less than 3% in 18 months. Everything from giant plotters to the fry cooks’ line printers.
What my replacement didn’t see was the 3 months I spent not sleeping. Worth every second.
Automate the living fuck out of everything (that’s ok to automate) & read reports / logs.
