The start of the headline lured me in for the biggest WTF moment I’ve had in ages. I’ll be sweating bullets the next time I see something about a former model/Miss-Wherever

I was here for the whole thing but was too new and too scared to ask what the hell all the beans were about. Can someone explain the history beanstory to me?
Many such cases
There’s no mention of any of this in an article about how she qualified. In fact, you can go and watch her qualifications on YouTube and it looks like she did 1v1 battles against some mediocre opposition and won each time.
From what I could find, her husband’s name is Samuel Free and I can’t find his name listed on either the AusBreaking or DanceSport Australia websites.
Maybe some Lemmy sleuths can find something to confirm that something nefarious was going on here, but to me it just looks like the idea that her qualification was rigged is just a Reddit rumour. If anything, it looks more likely that she participated in a closed qualification system that didn’t allow for the best competitors to show up
There’s actually too little cheese lady content on the timeline
“Autistically smart”?? There are many words in the English language that describe extreme/unusual intelligence. There’s no need to perpetuate stereotypes just to do so
The fresh prince is an ancient text now. It’s a few lines on the wikipedia page of the guy who slapped that other guy at the Oscars

The scale of human suffering across the planet is enough to make your stomach turn
“We are the only democracy in the region. We must defend ourselves against this barbaric group who have a medieval world-view.”

I don’t believe for a second that this teacher can convey information just as well sober as they can drunk. It might not be a crime, but it’s unethical to mess with a child’s one and only chance at getting an education like that.
Adults are allowed all sorts of vices. You can do drugs, participate in orgies, listen to the Beach Boys. But that doesn’t mean you should do any of that at work. Especially if you work with children.
They actually know a lot of stuff is harmless but it’s Security Theatre that was meant to make people feel better about flying after 9/11
They’ve already got you if you’ve been to an airport and, depending on where you live, protest, large sporting event or just walked down a street with CCTV cameras
Controversial opinion: I see more recycled content on Lemmy than Reddit. Comments are usually far better here, but it’s an unavoidable reality that there are less people generating new content here. Especially for niche communities.
Hop on over to the niche communities about movies or particular subgenres and they’re either dead or recycling stuff. Go to those same niche communities on Reddit and you’ll see lots of fresh content all the time. Maybe the main feeds are comparable but if you’re into anything niche that isn’t computing, privacy, politics or gaming, Lemmy can get a bit stale.
Never once had this thought. But it’s all I will be thinking about when I encounter this word
It’s amazing that it needs to be said, but Boomer politics won’t die with boomers. We’ll still have the same problems, but people will be more desperate as we will have fewer solutions and resources to throw at them than previous generations
I’m genuinely curious if people actually use the phrase ‘US Americans’, or if it’s a reference to that Miss Teen USA contestant rambling about world peace
Kanye still gets features and collaborators despite his Nazi turn. All the major rappers associated with him chose silence over condemnation. Biggie would most likely make the same choice with Diddy
