And then we have great games, like Stardew Valley on android. But they are very few and far between this endless deluge of slop.
And almost none of them were made for Android; they’re ports of actual games.
I’mma be real the ad doesnt look too fun either.
It’s like back in the 80s, when games had amazing hand-drawn covers and then the graphics was just text or simple shapes, but now with gameplay.
Those AD&D Dragonlance games from the 90s had such killer box art lol, especially for the time!
Cover of the first one:
Game graphics:
That was different though. Nobody was expecting such graphics back then.
And in that specific instance the box art is just trying to match the kind of art you’d find on D&D books
The art you’d find in d&d books at the time:
And then there was MegaMan’s cover.
It’s a shame because there’s quite a few games with big potential that could be just small fun game you pullout in the waiting room but then is riddled with ads and micro transactions and the cheapest engaging stuff they could make.
Honestly it kinda reminds me of blizzard games back in the day.
Folks remember the StarCraft adverts and cutscenes? Not remotely like the game.
I wonder why we gave them a pass. Probably because the game was still fun, I guess
I played WoW when it came out but I thought even then it was clear that their adverts and cutscenes weren’t trying to fool us into believing that was the gameplay. I can’t speak for StarCraft, but in WoW they were labeled as Cinematic Cutscenes. Most mobile games ads i see are made to look like gameplay, even the picture OP posted.
The Starcraft cutscenes are awesome, both SC1 and SC2 as well as both games being awesome. Obviously you’re not gonna get movie level graphics in game. RTS games aren’t about graphics but about how the game plays and both Starcraft games are still the best RTS out there.
Fuck modern blizzard but they used to make some awesome games. There’s a reason Starcraft is still the premier RTS to this day despite both games ages. They both play extremely well (SC1 less so but its aged impressively well) and I still play both casually.
Kids (and even adults) back then didn’t really know what was and wasn’t possible for real-time computer graphics. Like back in the time of Warcraft 2 and shit especially. SC2 maybe less so.
What’s the difference between the adv and the game
Adv stands for advertisement (no idea why they didn’t just say “the ad”.)
The difference is the higher graphics quality and the more interesting game mechanics in the ads which often are seriously lacking in the actual game.
