Not to defend this game in particular, but criticizing a game for its length vs cost alone is a bad trend that leads to Ubisoft-esque bloat and padding. There are plenty of shorter games that were well worth the price (Revengence, Titanfall 2, Portal 2, hell, most of Valve’s full single player games to name some)

Yeah I did the same for a while. Thought about I like 1 dollar per 1 hour. So if I payed 50 dollar for a 70 hour game that’s good.

Now I think that a game with 8 hours can be worth 70.

Ubisoft padding doesn’t count for length for me. I ain’t getting the 27000 collectibles, AC is 20h long not 200h long.

I mean, it’s not just collectibles that make those games big. Large worlds with many side quests, RPG or skill systems that require a lot of grinding to progress. It’s not like the game is designed the same way as Call of Duty, except there’s collectibles, Ubisoft’s games are fundementally bigger.

Fair enough, and it is definitely bigger. But in my mind, systems that get no engagement from me are systems that don’t exist, therefore making the game smaller.

What I particularly hate is the catacombs and other recycled open world stuff in Elden Ring. I’d much rather have another Sekiro sized game with a lot of quality than a 100h+ game I’ll only play once, because replaying anything more than the main progression path feels like a chore but it still gives you loot.

Around 15 hours for someone who goes in completely blind, I think. Or 20 minutes for someone who knows what they’re doing!

Mine, too! It really showcases the kind of narrative that is only possible with the interactivity of video games as a medium. If I could experience any game again for the first time, it’d be Outer Wilds!
