Unity: YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND! YOU DON’T KNOW THE FULL STORY
Devs: You’re charging us based on how many times a game gets installed and reinstalled, or opened in streaming services?
Unity: Oh so you do have the full story. What’s wrong with that?
Plainly, whoever’s at the head of this doesn’t understand developers or the industry, and is likely refusing to listen to their subordinates.
Not on my instance either, I just see Donald Trump looking annoyed that there’s a camera.
X/Tweet/thing from Stephen Totilo
NEW - I got a major update from Unity about their new fees
- Unity “regrouped” and now says ONLY the initial installation of a game triggers a fee
- Demos mostly won’t trigger fees
- Devs not on the hook for Game Pass
This is a truly pathetic attempt to save face. Fuck Unity, its now proven definitively that they cannot be trusted for current and future projects. The only thing they’ll learn from this is to not be so loud about these sorts of changes.
This is a Lemmy instance, I’d recommend posting Lemmy-formatted links (!game@instance.xyz
) here, and kbin-formatted (@instance.xyz@game
) links in a kbin-hosted instance.
When I mean “specific,” I mean things like something dedicated to a certain genre, a certain video game, to gaming suggestions, to asking whether you should buy a certain game… anything that isn’t just one catch-all for any video gaming topic. So I’m not including the various !games@instance
or !gaming@instance
links.
I know about the following and will be adding to this list with links people comment with:

Ya, this is stuff we already know, isn’t it? Like, it’s just common knowledge
Courtesy of Kagi Universal Summarizer:
Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter has coincided with a surge in antisemitic speech on the platform. After the ADL met with Twitter executives, hashtags calling to ban the ADL emerged and Musk engaged in an online campaign against them. He blamed the ADL for Twitter’s loss in revenue and called them the biggest generator of antisemitism. His criticism echoed antisemitic tropes but he claimed to be for free speech. However, Musk uses Twitter more as a platform for his own speech where he can boost accounts he likes and throttle competitors. Premium users who pay more also see their tweets prioritized, skewing discussions right-wing. While a truly free speech platform would tolerate abhorrent ideas, Musk’s actions in threatening critics and amplifying certain voices shows he is using his power more to privilege voices close to his own views rather than promote liberty of discussion.
Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter has led to a surge in antisemitic speech on the platform, sparked in part by Musk’s criticism of the Anti-Defamation League.
Musk endorsed posts criticizing the ADL and started his own campaign against the organization, accusing it of being the biggest generator of antisemitism on Twitter.
Musk’s criticism of the ADL tapped into classic antisemitic tropes while claiming to be against antisemitism.
Musk portrays himself as a free speech absolutist but has used his authority on Twitter to suspend accounts and throttle competitors.
Twitter under Musk has become a “pay-to-play” system where privileged accounts can boost their reach by paying a monthly fee.
Far-right voices that engage in cruelty, bigotry and misinformation seem to dominate the platform.
Musk’s own endorsements and responses on Twitter can instantly direct massive attention to certain accounts.
Twitter resembles Musk’s “playpen” more than a free speech paradise, with Musk’s values shaping the platform.
Merely tolerating abhorrent speech is different than agreeing with or amplifying it, which Musk has done.
Musk’s invocation of free speech is disingenuous, as he uses his power to privilege certain voices over others.

I respectfully have to disagree. They failed to bring relevant citations and evidence to support even basic claims such as why Nintendo and PC aren’t a part of the same market as PlayStation and Xbox, leaving the judge to argue that there was no reason to distinguish them without evidence to the contrary.
From what I’ve seen of the FTC, namely the lawsuit to stop the merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, I’m doubtful of Khan’s ability to form a case. That said, even a failed lawsuit against them is more than the FTC’s done yet to combat a big tech company’s unquestionable dominance.
If my gut feeling that this is a doomed lawsuit is right, it’s hopefully the first of many so that’s okay.
I’ve not played enough of the other FF games since 7 to say with certainty, but FF7,12,14, and 15 were extremely explicit political dramas. That was their entire plots
It doesn’t, unfortunately. Programmers, animators, concept artists, designers, each need to unionize in order to leverage collective action grants at the bargaining table. With last week’s decision by the NLRB though, it’s certain to be easier than ever to get unionized. Still, the amount of coordination it gets to even petition the NLRB to have your union recognized is no small feat. Just now it’ll be that much more difficult to bust a union election
Dropout.tv
(formerly CollegeHumour) is also an unstruck company.
Fair! The og was about Square “shooting themselves” in the foot over releasing FFXIII on the 360. It’s one of my favs
It’s a 15 year old copypasta lol
Sony just shot themselves in the foot.
I don’t know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I’m an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It’s not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want PlayStation+, nor will they purchase any of Sony’s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move. Sony, publicly apologize and cancel your 30% price hike for PS+ or you can kiss your business goodbye.
It’s only Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Do not expect, nor hope for, literally anything else.
$9.99 for a month of gamepass PC, or $10.99 for console (ultimate you’re paying for cloud access or online play, so it’s a disingenuous comparison) You can play starfield for a month, then buy it for 20% off through gamepass, so $55.99. $55.99+10.99 = $66.98.
So you basically get a $11 month-long trial, then $2 off the full price if you decide you like it enough to keep.
It’s hard to overstate how bold and game-changing the NLRB’s decision to the benefit of worker’s rights to collective action and form a union. They’ve successfully ushered in a reignition of the labour movement.
I beat Kingdom Hearts 1 last week, so this week I’m doing Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories! I think I’m about halfway through now, just finishing floor 12 I think, but the battle’s been rough on me to say the least. I think I’m gonna need to grind up some cards and levels today to get past it.
