I‘m fine with paying because I‘m starting a business. But I‘m not fine with tracking the payments so I will donate a set percentage of my profits (once I have them) to an open source group, no idea which one yet. The rest is not my problem.

Thanks! I‘m currently working with a customer who uses microsoft cloud stuff and windows. Honestly, I would have been done with my work after 20 minutes if he were on linux. Instead I‘m at 8 hrs and a full blown storage solution just because his hardware is incompatible with each other die to windows/microsoft BS.
I can not stress this enough: there are lots of issues on windows which require costly support while the issues on linux usually require a search engine or a friend with some linux experience.
The downside of postmarketOS at this point is the camera functionality. We need to get that working and we‘re golden. On the oneplus 6 I‘m working, its the only major thing that doesnt work. Otherwise the phone is pretty ready.
Its a oneplus 6 with postmarketOS.
Tangential:
I‘m running my own IT company since recently and am transitioning to exclusively using FOSS. I still have some things I need to work around like my iOS phone. It already has a linux successor but its not finished yet. Pretty promising though. My plan is to put a fixed percentage of profits to open source projects.
Thats a pretty impressive list
Pretty solid advice.
One could argue though that a backup script could pull the particular container image right after doing the backup to have maximum coverage.
If someone is already that adept at scripting to rely on a script to do automatic backups, they can very well pull the new images and clean old ones.
I‘m one of those who have a backup script and still use watchtower.
Oh wow! Thats gnarly. On that note, have you looked at rustdesk? Tried it this week and it runs great. Its also open source.
My first instinct was „meh“ but this reads like a great guide for non tech users to grasp the fedi.
The „maya“ convo strongly reminded me of green hell.
Otherwise it looks cool. The synced wolves need some work I guess. I wishlisted it. Good luck!
Btw. What engine?
Yeah, awesome if threads make it easy to go from free to corporate without a hussle /s
The reasons are plenty, they are laid out here:
I‘m not a fan of reinventing the wheel so feel free to ask questions if you like.
Thank you very much! This tool is great indeed!
I solved it with help. My fail2ban filters were too strict.
Thanks for commenting on this. It‘s cool to have more peeps share their experiences.
On the lemmy part I‘m partly with you. Lemmy itself is not the issue. It is what it does with postgres. I have multiple postgres instances, one for each service. The lemmy postgres is insane while the mastodon postgres is easy on the cpu.
The big difference is in the details.
Italians dont cook your pasta in that wheel. They throw it in there and shove it around. Its no comparison to that center console by any stretch. The countries that munch on raw fat are usually freezing cold and very rough in terms of manual labor conditions. People burn through double the amount of calories or more if they have heavy manual labor and cold climate.
Maybe not the spaniards though. ;)
Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to answer my comment. You folks are doing incredible work and I wanted to say thanks! :)
Sadly, I‘m not a database expert, otherwise I would help. So donations are the only form I can help with at this point.
Exactly! It’s like meta is actively trying to show how right us naysayers were.
Fedipact for the win! :)
From other comments I read, the database seems to be the issue, not lemmy. Is uses postgres and that uses the resources. Lemmy itself is no problem.
Sorry, no idea what you mean. I use the phone the same way I use my computer. I’m sticking to stuff that would probably pop up if it were to get compromised, otherwise I dont bother.
