  • I totally understand where you are coming from and agree in those particular examples; sure, the characters give us something to watch but without understanding what is actually happening, the story loses tons of steam

In the case of Civil War I think it works because of the following (no spoilers):

    • Unlike those other movies, we all know what a Civil War is, so “filling the blanks” is not as critical
    • Whatever caused it, happened a bit back. You start the movie towards what feels like the end of the war and nobody is trying to stop the war or solve the problem; because of that, you are not focusing on the reasons why it started
    • You follow journalists in the movie and they make it clear they are there to report what is happening, not to provide commentary. Again this moves you away from “why is this happening” mindset
    • Finally, yes they do provide enough to make an educated guess. They even provide one which is presented as the “final straw” that started it all. You won’t get the play-by-play sequence but it was enough for me to fill in the blanks

Cinematography is amazing and it does have that odd vibe that A24 movies have. I liked this movie a lot.

  • When people say “literally nothing” I just assume they are exaggerating and adjust it to “nowhere near enough to justify their salaries”. No need to argue that point.

The issue here is that if they do a bad job and lose a shit ton of money, they’ll just get a golden parachute and live but ruin another company later, and this is the worst case scenario. But if you do a great job under said CEO, you’ll get a pink slip and a 1 finger salute

The entire game is rigged for them, heads they win, tails we lose

So, even agreeing they some some work and said work could be important, I still hold zero sympathy since they don’t need it, and definitely do not deserve it

  • I love all the vague, ambiguous examples that say nothing.

I mean, the Intel CEO just literally quote the Bible… I guess you need a lot of education for that

Look, I understand you can’t get a high school dropout to do this job, but can they really justify earning 10000x more than other people in their companies? Are they 10000x more valuable??

Not recommending Ubuntu because of those 2 things, both of which can be turned off easily, seems a bit extreme. Like not recommending a Toyota because some of the inside trim attrack dust

As an intro into Linux, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone even if I myself moved on from it
