Yes, it’s just Oracle - Temurin, Coretto,… are all safe.
Oracle offers (paid) support for its Java distribution, which might be why it’s still used by companies…

Worse yet. They switched licensing and costs several times and companies should prepare to get hit with new licensing fees:
When they introduced Java 17 (a LTS version), they published it under the NTFC license. This means, this version is usable for free, but only until the next LTS version has been out for a year.
On Sep 19th 2023, Java 21 was released another LTS version. That means, that Java 17 just switched from the NTFC license to the OTNLA license a few days ago - which means, Java 17 is supported until 2029 but you now need a paid license to use it.
Hope everyone upgraded to Java 21 or newer in time.
Unless you were the one writing the program and its error messages - then check, that you didn’t mess up there…
D’uh, sometimes you just don’t see the obvious solution. Thanks, I think that’s the easiest solution for this problem!
Some also taste like chicken, I’ve heard.
I have a spelling checker,

Not a C++ dev, but looking at Java, which has reflection: Reflection allows to inspect and modify runtime attributes of classes, interfaces, fields and methods. Even, when you don’t know their names at compile time.
Basically take any object and just ask “what are your (even private) fields?” and then happily modify them, or call these methods, or…
Technically correct, but back, when Reddit allowed 3rd party apps, I did get the occasional “Hey you lost something” comment, as some apps had a broken markdown rendered that wouldn’t display it without.
Also it can have side effects if you use an underscore in the same paragraph or use it twice in a row, as it then suddenly can render as italic.
¯\_(ツ)/¯ Not sure how Lemmy reacts, though ¯\_(ツ)/¯
Although I know this, I cannot remember where I need to escape. So I just have two custom autocorrections: shrug
which yields the regular (and broken on Lemmy) ¯_(ツ)_/¯ for general use and shrugmd
with the markdown variant for the use on e.g. Lemmy: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In the end it’s:
shrug: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
shrugmd: ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
because it won’t let you do that:
elvith@testvm:~$ sudo rm -fr /
rm: it is dangerous to operate recursively on ‘/’
rm: use --no-preserve-root to override this failsafe
Easy: Just have him in a headlock and then hit right on target until you win. He didn’t think this through…
Yes, though you could also do rm -rf /*
afaik to not need --no-preserve-root
Edit: I just realized that the *
is already in the meme. So this should already work as is. Alternatively you could always use the good old way of “act now and remove all French roots of your system: rm -fr / --no-preserve-root
”
Since almost everything on the right would be located in /home/<username> on the left, it should include some of the subdirectories of %windir%\
In the end it’s about money. If one had to pay for environmentally damages (e.g. a new tax on $energyUnit, $resourceUnit,…) and you’d not only pay for the resources + some markup for the producing company and just external externalize the “worth” of the damages (read: the taxpayer,…), then it’s cheaper to use these services instead of humans.
It’s encrypted anonymous communication capabilities.
Unless you enable it for every single chat (and IIRC only available for chats with only two persons, not group chats) there’s no encryption. Or did they change that? The only encryption that applies to most chats on that platform should be transport encryption via TLS.
Are there any cast-delays or such? Otherwise, you could just say I cast, as soon as they’re 30ft away
As experience tells me, every program contains at least one bug.
Experience also tells me, that you can remove the buggy line of code and the program will still not work as intended.
From this follows, that every program can be reduced to a single line of code that doesn’t work as intended.
Nintendo in my experience:
Physical: Get it right on release day (or in the first week after) in retail for about 40€, otherwise you will have to rely on rare good retail discounts to get it below 55€
Digital: Don’t you even dare to think about discounts
