Fair points, but I would also add that while the US isn’t a block, they do hold sway with a number of other countries. NATO is also involved in this equation. China also has significant investments in the US. I don’t fault China for seeing economic opportunity in Russia, but they have to walk a pretty fine line if they’re going to make it work.
Yeah, that’s what I think of whenever I read about the Bradley. Great movie, and even better book. That said, they were able to finally deliver a pretty solid vehicle in the aftermath of the initial development debacle. Still not at all what was originally intended, but less of a moving coffin that was depicted in the book/movie.
This is what frustrates me so much about people in the US arguing against supporting Ukraine. At the end of the day, while China might be willing to help Russia, the US is by far it’s largest customer. Add to that China’s own economy is contracting, and supporting Ukraine against Putin, along with the severe sanctions that have been in place, is the smartest most cost effective way of hopefully removing him from power. I have a co-worker who got out of Russia a little over a year ago, and he said it was pretty bad before he and his family left. Unfortunately, it’s a slow process because the goal is to get the Russian people to oust him. We all know that’s not going to happen at the ballot box, so all that’s left is the people overthrowing their leaders. Things have to get pretty dire before a population like Russia’s gets to that tipping point.
This is a marathon. The main thing is keeping Ukraine strong and able to defend itself. I’m really liking the offensives into Russian territory they’ve been carrying out. I just want them to remember a defensive position is easier to maintain/win than an offensive one. In other words, don’t try to go to far into Russia. Way way too many great generals have made that mistake!
That one and G Gordon Liddy. I especially liked in one of the later Liddy episodes where he said he doesn’t like doing more than 3 or 4 because it gets monotonous, but that Liddy’s life was so bonkers that he just couldn’t decide what to cut!
I’ve migrated petabytes from one GPFS file system to another. More than once, in fact. I’ve also migrated about 600TB of data from D3 tape format to 9940.
Compatible? Should be. Identical? No (at least not always). Only identical FRU are interchangeable.
Anyone else get a lot of “Failed to load media” messages on images? I particularly see them on science memes in both Voyager and Arctic on iOS. Haven’t tested on android yet.
Is America still selling them weapons? Has America condemned the strikes against schools and hospitals, or the atrocious civilian death toll? Is America doing anything g AT ALL aside from an occasional “thoughts & prayers” press conference? Is America not permitted to say or do anything?
I don’t recall saying anything about the US being the police or turning off (whatever that means) anything, but assuming the US can’t do anything about it as one of Israel’s biggest allies is just naive. Oh, and while I as a US citizen agree wholeheartedly that the US isn’t & and shouldn’t be the world police; it is undoubtedly a superpower (how many do you think there are), for better or worse. Not doing or saying much of anything about Israel’s actions in Gaza certainly hasn’t helped the situation.
“The US is scrambling to prevent an all out war” (that it tacitly fomented by letting Israel do pretty much whatever the fuck it wants in Palestine with no repercussions).
FTFY.
True, but that’s why groups like G20 exist. They can agree to act as a block. If a “bad actor” decided they wanted to do something like you suggest, the G20 countries could agree on sanctions against that country.
Also, “because someone will figure out a way around it” is not a good reason not to enact a law. Just a reason to make one better.
I use nginx & docker-proxy. Because the model I copied used that setup. Having messed with it a bit, I’m understanding it more and more. Before that, the last time I messed with a web server (Apache), nginx wasn’t around. Lately, I’ve seen a similar docker setup to mine that doesn’t use docker-proxy. If I find time, I’ll probably play with that some on my dev rig.
Now check out when Michael Phelps told Congress that most swimmers have little to no faith in WADA.
Later: “US Supreme Court Rules Official Acts of Former Presidents Immune From Prosecution.”
Ah shit. That was weird. This post was near the casual conversation sub. Sorry about that.
ETA: thanks for the upvote to whoever appreciated my lack of sanity!
Yeah, what kind of ass-backward dumpwater lets that happen!? Third-world-problems, amiright?
I think I’ve had this conversation with you before. Anyone who uses the “they’ll just leave” argument as a reason not to do it simply isn’t arguing in good faith.
This is a good start, for sure, but it should not be the end at all. The wealthier people get, the more effort they put into hiding/keeping that wealth.
Income/wealth/property/capital gains taxation is a balancing act. You want everyone paying their share; and everyone simultaneously agrees with that notion, while wanting to pay the absolute least for themselves. I would also argue that people need to see the benefits of that taxation in the form of maintained infrastructure and properly funded services. If it all just goes into the pockets of, e.g., the US military industrial complex, people will be less inclined to pay taxes at all.
