Another good reminder of my desire to drop this browser. The question is whether it’s Ungoogled Chromium, or some Firefox forks available on Android and desktops.

Games@lemmy.world•Mina The Hollower Is Now Metacritic's Highest-Rated Game Of 2026English
22·1 month agoIt’s sold through the European DRM-free-only store GOG and it’s by Yacht Club Games, the makers of Shovel Knight. I put it on the wishlist for now.
The soundtrack is Pay What You Want starting from $0 through Jake Kaufman’s Bandcamp page. It won’t appear in your GOG library unlike the Soundtrack Edition, but that’s OK if you get the music free or support him.

Games@lemmy.world•Videogame pirates tell other pirates to shut up about it after Subnautica 2 developers are taunted with illicit copiesEnglish
8·2 months agoDon’t download from a shady looking website, go to reputable sources. Fitgirl, Internet Archive, etc. Read the comments if the website has them, don’t have to read thoroughly, just a quick skim to see if other people reported things and whether they’re false positives. Don’t download things before they’ve released, or download things for other platforms but "for Windows"somehow. Make sure what you’re downloading takes up the kinda space you’d expect from that game, (don’t download GTA V but it’s a 40mb download).
Yeah, we basically rely on blind faith. Honestly I trust pirates to keep their stuff clean more than the developers and the publishers themselves who just so often inject the malware called DRM in the first place.
Or by Valve and their clones to drive sales on their DRM’d game platforms. Movies haven’t really died out on physical, not as much or as early as PC games. Combine that with the tactics of idiots who also used Starforce and its clones and they’ve also left an impression outlasting the few games that were infected with the stuff. Now the new normal is to buy stuff infected with online account DRM as if that’s somehow better.
Okay but also I heard bluray movies can be directly played only on Windows, for other OSes you have to rip the movie. Must be fun.
Meanwhile I still have a couple disc drives and the one that came with my laptop is still with me but has been replaced by a caddy to access my data from the old hard drive alongside my smol new SSD.
And I have so many discs too…
Do you have an issue with desktop Cromite where the browser just straight up freezes except for maybe the menu button? I’d chalk up to being a Debian Linux weirdo, but my work-provided Windows 11 laptop also has this particular issue in the flesh. I switched back to Ungoogled Chromium because of it, and also cause I want uBlock Origin and no less.
At least Cromite Android has extensions.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex’s price hikes prove I was right to switch to JellyfinEnglish
2·2 months agoI’m reminded of a few things. Enpass giving away Pro subscriptions, then years later on adding a higher tier, Premium. Nova’s Prime will apparently become just one tier of many premium tiers for the app. Podcast Addict adding another subscription on top of the premium IAP.
This kind of shit happens all the time, and Plex could do it. Good thing I’m already with Jellyfin.
So you’ll accept Billionaire #927 slander from a PC player, right? Also goodness, that’s lame as fuck.
Here comes the Epstein class bootlicking committee again…
The majority of people
Stop using such shit excuses. Keep Android Open!!
I have a fair bit of gripes with them, but they stay out of the way instead of embedding yourself into the system. Buy game, download it, we’re both done. You know, like an actual store, and not a parasite? Plus they’re not US-based and giving the Epstein class less tax dollars is always good.
I’m worried about its new ownership but apart from some LLM shenanigans which they quietly backtracked on they’re still way better than the rest.
And private companies still exist in and play by the rules of a capitalist system, yes. A system that encourages being unethical and chasing profits. So you bet worker-owned is the best bet. That or a lot of regulation, which the US is deliberately lacking.
So yeah as a Linux user I’m not putting 1% of my faith in a US corporation.
Just because a capitalist US corporation is “not public” you figure they’re not chasing next quarter? Really?

4·3 months agoI think you perfectly nailed it. When I go to a text article, I’m in charge of how fast or slow I want to take it, I can skip text, and a feature I really don’t use much is if the browser has a reading mode, which would remove all the stupid shit crammed into the site like the cookie bar or other things uBlock Origin doesn’t get.
It’s also that I only need to read. Videos might work with just listening but especially often they need me to also watch the feed. Way more effort so a guy can say things that I’ve already lost track of midway.
It kinda feels like that for me.

Oh, shit. Sorry about that, I am incompetence itself. Thanks for coming to my aid. I replaced it just now in my comment too.
