    1. Escape temporarily with a group
    2. Find scrolls of modify memory
    3. Remove memories from all but one escapee
    4. Rest of the group returns home with no memory of escape or the person left behind
    5. Escapee on the outside learns the spell modify memory and/or finds more scrolls
    6. Returns to orchestrate resistance
    7. The resistance operates in cells which have no memory of being part of the resistance
    8. “Handlers” are rotated frequently and are responsible for providing memories and stockpiled weapons
    9. Cell members are given memories, perform missions, and then return home with no memory
    10. Cells that are compromised are abandoned immediately and their members are never activated again.
    11. Handlers are personally recruited and serve for short periods of time before being wiped by the next handler.

Seems like a pain, but possible. It would make a good story.

  • I’m mainly concerned about:

    1. Not losing data if one drive dies on me.
    2. Fast reads
    3. Easy plug and play expansion

Since I’ll have 8 drives (or 6, if I use the smaller server, it would be nice if I could swap out one of them without losing data and add a larger one, which would then get used automatically. Is that something that RAID is good for?

I’m hesitant to set up backups because it’s going to be a lot of data.

  • It’s not an acronym.

It originally meant “awake” in English, kept that meaning in the American black community after it fell out of use among whites (e.g. “I was having trouble staying woke on the drive”), and was repurposed as slang. The slang meaning was “to be aware of prejudice or racism”, with the implication that many blacks were “asleep”, i.e. accepted excuses for racist systems, believed that racism wasn’t a big deal anymore etc.

I’m not sure whether the word was adopted seriously by leftists generally before the right, or immediately became a catch-all label on the right, but either way, it’s become the latter.

Conservatives and some left-critical leftists now use it as a broad term that refers to things like DEI initiatives, anything trans, etc.

  • I had Kagi for a bit and enjoyed it, but I’m not sure I use search enough to justify the price tag.

I didn’t know about the personalized SEO thing- I wonder if you could have a “default SEO rank” that would basically average all the specific uprank/downranks from other users. So power users tweak their algo, and everyone else gets the benefit of using that human feedback to improve their results.
