  • Another idea: have ‘lending libraries’ for hobbies. Leave your art supplies and check out a keyboard and a Ukulele. Donate leather-working tools and while you are there you can use the 3D printer. Kind of like a cross between a maker space and a book library.

Smaller libraries might be able to combine the two ideas. I know you used to be able to check out video cameras and AV equipment before everybody phone did that at my library.

This way creative people in the community who otherwise couldn’t afford to express themselves could have access to the tools to do so. I could make more room in my house by donating the art supplies to people who I know will use it… at least until they get bored of that and want to try something else.

I could see people holding classes there in how to use the tools properly, or even just hanging out to give advice to people who want it.

  • I would add “Tex Mex” among the list of good American food, along with “Chinese Food”.

By Chinese food of course I mean the food Chinese Americans and immigrants serve in the U.S. From what I understand it’s not really authentic Chinese food, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t tasty. I think it counts.

  • My mom dated a Englishman when I was a kid and he made us “Yorkshire Pudding” that shit was excellent.

The best 'Fish and Chips" are made at this little seaside rstaurant in Oregon and made with Salmon. They must have ran out of chips because I got French Fries instead. Was still excellent though.

    Ba dum tiss!

  • I’ve never done that myself, but after looking it up it doesn’t seem like it would be extremely difficult, but I’ve gotten used to making things from scratch though so ymmv.

I don’t want to hype it up too much, If I’m being honest the first slice of Pie I will get at thanksgiving is usually a cherry pie, and I’ll get Pumpkin if I left room for seconds. That being said it’s just not fall/ thanksgiving around here without at least one slice of the stuff. I like it but I imagine the brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg probably has as much to do with it as the pumpkin itself.

One thing I do know about baking them is that, unlike the ones you buy to make into Jack-O-Lanterns, you want to get a relatively small one- they actually grow varieties of pumpkin specifically for cooking with here, but I doubt that you could get one down there if y’all aren’t used to eating them. I think you would be fine just getting the smallest ones you can find. (2 Kilos or less preferably).

I’ll make you a deal, if you do it I will do it too, and post pictures of the result :)

If you do, make sure to retain the seeds and toast them. (It’s tradition, and they’re known to be a good source of magnesium, fiber, zinc, iron and a whole host of other nutrients and antioxidants.) Note that is the basic bitch recipe and you can do a lot of fun things with them. I like tossing them with Cajun seasoning as an example.

  • Anyways, my main point was more about the original topic.

Yeah, kind of got hung up on the food aspect. Sorry about that. (I love food).

I’m not even sure how I would possibly rate them? What am I even trying to rate them on? People’s attraction to both left me wondering if people were just lying about it (and perhaps sexual attraction more broadly) because it was beyond me comprehension that would could actually care for either.

I think it’s just hard for people like us to imagine what that is like. Much like how the thought crossed your mind that maybe people are lying about sexual attraction- I think the reverse is also true. I think most people when they hear the word ‘asexual’ think the person just means that they have a very low sex drive- not that they are totally and completely unable to feel sexual attraction.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around it myself. I knew I was a boobs and ass man long before I ever reached puberty. Sexual desire is such a integral part of my life that it would be no less confusing if you said you never got hungry or never felt pain.

I think Jesus was a myth, but if we are running the thought experiment that Jesus was real and he was pious because he was asexual- that seems a bit like cheating to me. The reason that people have such a hard time following all of Christianities silly sexual rules is because most people do have sexual desires. It’s like being impressed that someone who never feels hunger hasn’t eaten in 30 days or someone who never feels pain walking over hot coals. Technically they did the thing- but it’s not the same.

  • I don’t think so?

You’ve never tried it or you just aren’t sure if you liked it?

But I assume the same for the pie itself.

You never know, some things don’t sound like they would be good but then you try them anyway and it turns out to be fantastic. There are very few things I will not at least try once before deciding its not for me. Hell sometimes I’ll try a food I’ve already tried once before and didn’t like it, and occasionally I am pleasantly surprised

And if the option is for a smaller piece with whipped cream, that might be less bad than a full sized piece without cream.

I believe that is what GreenKnight23 was getting at. Most people know whether or not they like whipped cream. If you did like it and were ‘forced’ to try a slice of pumpkin pie- well at minimum you will get something you do like along with something you don’t like. If you don’t like whipped cream, then you wouldn’t want it on your pumpkin pie slice because then you could possibly be eating two things you didn’t like.

  • There’s no such thing as a “good billionaire”.

I never claimed she was a ‘good billionaire’. I’m saying it’s possible that she will choose to do some good things with her money. I’m not saying she will, just that I am willing to allow her to prove me wrong before I decide against her.

When more money is made compared to the labour that is put in, it usually leads to some kind of oppression/injustice.

I agree, it ‘usually’ does. However in this case I’m kind of having a hard time figuring out where this oppression/injustice is happening. She’s an ‘artist’ and people who enjoy her work buy/listen to her music. It’s not food, shelter, healthcare, or any of the other things required to live, it’s music and people would likely survive just fine if they never heard another song about how terribly Taylor’s ex boyfriend had treated her.

And (again- this is just through the grapevine), but I hear that she gives large bonuses to her staff- payments that are above and beyond the agreed upon amount she ‘owes’ them. I suppose it’s possible even likely that she doesn’t give them a fair share of the profits, but I have no proof of that either way- and I’m not even sure how you would go about determining what a proper share would be in this case, but it sounds like at the very least she does more than most employers. Maybe not the perfect scenario but ill take flawed over terrible any chance I can get.

On some level you can ignore this injustice, but here we are talking about potentially 2 billions.

Point out the injustice and I’ll happily criticize her for it. I figured it could probably wait until the Musks, Ellisons, Suckerbergs, Bozos, Pages, Brins, Trumps, and their ilk had been reckoned with but if a pop singer is really that big of a problem count me in on the hate train.

  • I don’t follow sports and I don’t care for most country or pop music, but other people are free to like what they like.

I know she made a stand against record company greed, which I appreciate.

She supposedly gave out like $50million worth of bonuses to the crew on her latest tour.

She tried to keep her ticket prices lower than she could have charged.

What Kayne did to her was incredibly rude and she handled that situation with class.

Her dating Travis and attending his football games has somehow pissed off a lot of people for some reason and their response is usually something misogynistic.

The right wing media seems to hate her.

I heard she came out in favor of LGBT rights.

Given that she started off as a country singer and seems to be moving further left, I can only imagine she’s influencing at least some of her fans to be more compassionate.

The only legitimate criticism I can think of is that she’s worth about $2billion. She’s been fairly good about being charitable from what I understand, and got most of that bread through her recent tour, so I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that she uses her money to do some good things.

Out of all the ways that someone could earn billions “Pop Star” is probably one of the least exploitative ways to go about it, it’s not like she made it by underpaying workers like most capitalists.

I’m honestly a little annoyed by knowing so much about an artist who’s art I don’t even care for, but it’s even more annoying that when I do hear about her, people are usually criticizing irrelevant things.

Can anyone tell me a good reason why a Leftist should jump on the ‘Hate Taylor Swift’ bandwagon along with Fox News and Donald Trump? Just seems like a weird person to go after when there are so many more people actively making the world a worse place.
