That’s fair. I don’t mean to invalidate your personal experience with cast iron rusting, but I do want to present a counter experience so people don’t think it’s definitely like that.

By the time my cast iron cools, I’ve left the kitchen, so tbh i generally clean it before the next time i cook with it, and have never had rust issues no matter what i cooked in it last. Every once in a while i notice the seasoning getting a little thin after scrubbing it, so I reseason it with a single layer on the stove.

With my carbon steel wok, i regularly clean it by tossing it on the wok burner at full blast until it’s entirely red hot and everything has carbonized off of it, and maybe splash some water in to help clear that off. Then i wait for it to cool enough and reseason it with a quick wipe of oil while it’s still hot enough for the remaining heat to polymerize the oil.

Basically, I’ve never spent significant effort taking care of my cast iron of carbon steel cookware, and it’s all still perfectly functional and non-stick and not rusted.

Not sure about the commercial planes, but some planes have a redundant wing.

The Forest is a good multiplayer survival crafting game, with a pretty cool story. The sequel is also already out I think.

I think someone else said what it actually is in another comment. It’s functionally identical 90℅ of the time for me anyway,and I use CLI and vim on it.

It works fine for small projects. I think that with more than 2-3 devs a PR based strategy works better for enforcing review and just makes life easier in general, since you end up with less stuff like force pushes to fix minor things like whitespace errors that break everyone’s local.

If it’s a private repo I don’t worry too much about forking. Ideally branches should be getting cleaned up as they get merged anyway. I don’t see a great advantage in every developer having a fork rather than just having feature/bug branches that PR for merging to main, and honestly it makes it a bit painful to cherry-pick patches from other dev branches.

Everywhere I’ve worked, you have a Windows/Mac for emails, and then either use WSL, develop on console in Mac since it’s Linux, or most commonly have a dedicated Linux box or workstation.

I’m starting to see people using VSCode more these days though.

I’ve wanted to try them before, and even bought whatever people were saying was a good starter a few years ago. The issue is that I honestly never write anything in pen. I think the only time I do is when I’m addressing a letter or check, which never happens these days. So the pen just dried out with basically no use…

I was literally told once that they were no longer hiring for the role I applied for because Facebook had slowed hiring and they were slowing hiring too in response.

The company I was applying to isn’t even in the same industry as Facebook, other than both being tech companies.

The Adobe photography plan costs me $120 a year, and honestly includes more useful updates than not. Their AI masking upgrades the last couple years are saving me hours to days of editing time per photo session.

$120 a year is worth maybe one hour of my free time. Even just migrating to Darktable would take me weeks or months of dedicated time to migrate my existing catalog.

So, I can’t easily find the name of the ship in Chinese, but it could possibly be a translation error during naming? New New is xīng xīng in pingying (romanized phonetic Chinese), which is also the same spelling as star… If whoever did the translation was bad at it and did it solely off of the phonetics or romanized spelling.

Tbf, that’s kinda what people thought about leaded gasoline, or greenhouse gas emissions.

In this case, yes, everyone seems perfectly fine, but dilution isn’t the solution to everything when the body you’re diluting into is finite.

I’m glad you never experienced this yourself, and hope you never will. It’s perfectly understandable that you don’t know something like this that you haven’t seen before, but I’m glad that now that you’re aware of the context, you’re willing to adjust your worldview to accommodate the new knowledge.

This entire conversation is honestly very Western centric, but I hope it can be useful to you in other ways as we continue adjusting the English terminology we use around technology going forward.

It was Indiana at the time, as far as getting cars and racism getting mixed together in one experience for me. These days I’m in Texas, but haven’t engaged too much with the car culture here yet.
