On the bright side, they save a lot of money on their Coast Guard.

The crazy thing is, the person who made that decision isn’t there for you to be mad at them. It’s a perfect example of turning us against one another.
Hey, I’m just a lurker on this discussion, but I’m going to assume you’re asking an honest question here and not sealioning. If you really want to take action, I’d recommend looking at changing policy at the local level. I believe California has recently passed a couple laws that do things like disallow mandatory gratuities for large groups, and increase minimum wage for service workers. So if you want action items:
The way they sneaked up on us was: during the pandemic, I started tipping a dollar or two for take-out because “we’re all in this together” and “these are extraordinary times.” Then those Clover bastards came through and turned that dollar or two into a baseline 15%.
@PugJesus@lemmy.world it’s time to “cross the Rubicon” to full federation!
These are all excellent communities, and invariably some of my favorite posts of the day. I’m seeing them on lemmy.world, btw.
!cyberpunk@lemmy.zip - mostly games, movies, shows, and music in the cyberpunk sci-fi genre
!wavemusic@lemmy.world - music: synthwave, vaporwave, etc. A fairly new community, a couple different people have been posting
!gothindustrial@lemmy.world - music community. I was hoping someone else would make the 300th post, if not I’ll post something later today.
!fullmoviesonyoutube@lemm.ee - a larger community, a couple of us are posting regularly, but could use more discussion
!fedigrow@lemm.ee - a community about how to help grow the fediverse. @Blaze@reddthat.com has been posting a weekly thread on “how is your [niche] community doing?” which is kind of like a support group for people keeping communities alive
edit: how could I forget, !shortstories@literature.cafe - links to short stories online in all genres
He’s not. He’s a Roman, his father’s a centurion in the Jerusalem garrison, and his name is Naughtius Maximus.
Make sure you listen to Eye of the Tiger: 30 minute intro while watching that.
Since everybody knows it’s going to be mediocre, they should have just used the budget to make a historically-realistic movie about something in that era.
if you took the world and seperated its humans by intelligence, the “idiot” group is going to be much bigger than the “PhD” group. Like…by a lot.
No… you’d have a bell curve. But even that assumes you have a single good measure of intelligence.
I kind of agree with the rest of your post, but I would have worded it a bit differently, emphasizing that people who found it difficult to start using Lemmy might still be worth having around. Also, I don’t think “as large as Reddit” or “small niche unknown” are our only options.
I’ve been holding off buying a Synology NAS for the same reason: it seems to involve creating an account with them. Is this in the same category or is it not as bad?
“And if I’m NOT elected, I’ll be EVEN MORE carniverous!!!”
Which will it be? The left paw of death, or the right paw of life?
When you defend, print out your slides; at least enough for your committee and you. Then if all else fails, you can present off the paper copies. (also, it gives the committee members somewhere to write notes and to easily look back to previous slides.)
Just put the orchestra on a spaceship approaching light speed, and you can take even less time (relatively experienced by an off-spaceship audience.) If you still want the shockwave, you can use an Alcubierre drive.
I just say: “It’s like email. There are different email servers, but they can all talk to one another. If there are things you really like, you can subscribe to them, and if there are things you don’t like, you can block them.”
Or replace “email” with “instant messages”.
I think a better summary would be: Chile told Bolivia after Bolivia tried to screw it over on an international treaty, and Bolivia dragged Peru into it. It’s an interesting history from many perspectives: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_the_Pacific
