Most people think just installing Tor and running protects them and their identity. Most don’t even look at things like DNS leaks or think a VPN plus Tor helps, that being said. Tor and Mullvad are probably as private and as secure as you can get by default.

I have been thinking about one of those e-ink box Palmas and putting a minimalist launcher on it making it my primary work device or get away from the world device.
My Pixel 8 Pro is running GrapheneOS so my primary phone would manage my worldly needs in a private manner while my Boox would handle my get away needs for just the essentials. Reading and browsing nothing more.
I would lock the device down with a child google account and Google’s family link app. This could see screen time prevent launcher changing and unnecessary app downloads my primary phone could manage it under a segmented Google profile in GrapheneOS. I think I would find myself to annoyed to even bother allowing app downloads so I would just install what is felt the phone was necessary for. A basic web browser, minimalist launcher and reading apps, lemmy and maybe Reddit. It would cut downy screentime a lot I think.

What you just described is exactly how elitism works. I understand the hate for Facebook and all of Meta’s products. However, this is exactly how gate keeping starts. I don’t want to see the fediverse go anywhere more than the next person but it becomes contradicting and hypocritical to the entire establishment of the fediverse if Lemmy or other federated apps begin to decide who can and can’t be federated. That is the whole image right? To prevent gate keeping and to establish that not one person owns any one portion of Lemmy, Mastodon, etc. However, what happens when an entity on Lemmy does start deciding to defederate a Conglomerate starts making decisions just like Facebook? The does Lemmy not start fitting the bill of not being able to tolerate the intolerance as well? To me that becomes elitism the very thing Lemmy users swear is a perfect system.
I don’t believe Meta is good for anyone or anything but Lemmy users need to understand that you can’t say, “we are different.” And then justifying the very contradiction of being exactly the same by just saying, “Facebook takes freedom.” I don’t like Facebook infact fuck them but either Lemmy users admit they need to play the game like Facebook and that someone controls who is a part of content and who isn’t or they don’t. Just stop trying to find ways that this would be “different” just fucking say, “we want to control the content that is on the platform and who can be a part of it.” Because now you are playing the Meta game on their own terf. Just tired of Lemmy users thinking they are special.

I dunno I don’t feel like this applies to just Windows or Mac when you consider Red Hat’s acquisition. Windows is popular because of the powerful tools it provides to manage businesses and it goes it well.
Shit on Microsoft all you want but the systems work well for businesses. I would charge others too if my product was popular and did what others needed it to do.
Linux isn’t immune to be used to being made to make money and I really think the Linux community forgets that money talks. Get it in enough businesses and their is potential for someone to charge.

I just want to throw it out there that you can use any of these products and learn a terminal. Often times Mac does better with photo editing and programming in terms of handling the load balance.

I am seeing a lot of negative comments on here and while I agree the franchise has grown stale I can also say the personal emails of employees being leaked is shit and shouldn’t happen. Nintendo had to have their day and it came and here we are but it sucks employees are at the butt of the leak.
Also as a fan I welcome competition and games like PalWorld but the classic Pokemon games hold true to my heart and some of these leaks are really dn cool while others set a concerning precedent for what data companies leave laying around and for how long.
For those of you that are interested there are some really interesting things to come out of this for fans.
Source code to games sucks in one manner but gives modders and ROM hackers the opportunity to do many things. It is tools like this Nintendo should have just embraced providing or should allow the community to have community versions to do what they want with it after 25+ years. Maybe it would he less intriguing if those tools were open sourced and the may hidden items were just openly shared. There would be less incentive to steal if they innovated on tools or left old ones to the past to be what they are. However, likewise, legally it is their IP to do with what they want.
Source code is one but straight up editing tools for how they created e-card code for e-card readers. 3DS Dev Kits and Pokemon Beta games sets a whole other wheel in motion and gives players real power to do what will absolutely hurt Nintendo’s bottom line and that is develop. That has to be a real wake up call to Nintendo.
Seeing leaks about the anime, movies, and future games is a bummer to me and I don’t want any part of that. I would rather those stay a mystery so I can be ready to play them and even if you don’t like Pokemon or Nintendo that is fine some of us hate Nintendo and like Pokemon because it was there for us as a child when your parents are going through a divorce. (TMI I know) point there is stuff adult me loves seeing because kid me would never have thought some of this would shed so much light on Nintendo’s development and scrapped ideas and processes. While Nintendo should and very much will take action on their IP. I really think if they want to learn from this they will tackle damages on upcoming films, shows, and games. Instead of being embarrassed by old stuff they should just say, “fuck it” and embrace the community doing with it what they want. We are talking about 20 year old data in some cases and tools most people have already debugged, replicated, and deciphered.
