I used to buy the games I knew I’d want to play forever on disc for my PS4. Then the disc drive died, and while looking into repairing it I discovered they lock the drive to the mainboard by serial number and only “authorized repair centers” can flash the proper keys.

That’s when I gave up completely on consoles, bought most of those games at heavy discount on Steam, and walked from anything Sony bothers to fart out into the market.

It’s fine. Most rounds are jacketed these days anyway, and copper fouling is pretty easy to clean away. Lead is just cheap and easy mass for the same space.

I panicked a bit when I saw the news earlier today as one of those niche guys. Then remembered I had removed it for WiVRn a few weeks ago and don’t have anything else off the AUR. Double niche win lol

I get slightly bummed about this possible future, but then look at my crazy backlog from over the years and all of the old spare hardware I have kicking around. I could spend years just going back through emulators, let alone the literal thousand Steam titles built up and waiting to be rediscovered. Plus all the fan projects and indie studios that don’t require frame gen as part of their base spec.

We’ll be ok, we just may have to revisit the Old Ways a bit.

I just built a headless M8. I sold mine last year lol.

I have thousands worth of random modular, sequencers, groove boxes, software synths… It’s endless. I sold a ton the last few years. I own 5 guitars for “different purposes”. I have a Tracker Mini on the way tomorrow.

I’ve never produced a single thing I’d want to share with anyone. But I have fun making bleep bloops and that’s what I remember when I start to feel bad about it. I just wanna live in a musical spaceship and that’s ok until it’s not, so let’s just make cool sounds and not worry about it. 🤷‍♂️

I use byobu for random small rPi projects and stuff. It’s just easy to set up, I’ve used it forever,
and I like the lil stats bar.

I’m so ready for that thing to be real and just take over this shit.

This is exactly the kind of crap So y lives to pull, and why after my PS4’s disc drive died (and I found out they’re paired to the motherboard and can’t just be replaced) I stopped buying any more games, let Plus lapse, and repurchased everything on PC.

I’m a huge fan of tiling window managers, and i3 is still the king of getting the hell out of my way and letting me work/play. That’s the beauty of Linux systems, everyone gets to set things up how they want.

Nothin like the crunch of salt under your keys to really boost that productivity.
