I have accounts on several Lemmy instances (because I was dumb and thought that was the way the Fediverse worked). Now I only use my account from a local instance and post on several others. Yes, it’s kinda slower that way, but at least it’s consistent. This is asynchronous communication, anyways, we don’t need to see every single post inmediately.

I’m not versed in videogame network infrastructures, but wouldn’t be enough just having a load balancer and a couple of instances to ensure “100% uptime”? At least before all instances and the load balancer itself decide to join a suicidal pact, but more instances mean less chance of a critical event happening, no?
