I’m always surprised by the toxicity of Lemmy. Anyways I think it was relevant to the topic because the OP asked for opinions on atomic systems. Are you arguing because you have a drastically different one?
After the last experience, very proudly homophobic.

I agree that this is a very valid reason but I don’t think most of the people see their OS that way
Sounds like a serious bug. What’s the distro and package format? It might be a single package issue.
I don’t see atomic systems on desktop computers. They make sense on more embedded and stable systems that still need eventual updates like ATMs and industrial machinery control panels but not desktops. Atomic systems kill customization that is one of the core advantages of Linux. Probably it also has something to do with my not-so-enthusiastic opinion on Flatpak idk.
That’s the power of Linux, mister/miss.
These projects are almost diametrically opposite. GNOME tries to provide a very simple, solid but not very configurable desktop with good accessibility and stability while KDE tries to make a very configurable and powerful environment that can be customized to anyone’s needs. I don’t like KDE because it’s unstable, way too powerful for my personal needs (their “simple by default; powerful when needed” concept doesn’t really work) and I just don’t like the UI. Though KDE’s better performance is an objective advantage.
Well GNOME has issues but in terms of look it’s 69420x better than KDE.
I like the look of KDE Plasma the most.
GNOME vs KDE gang fight has been summoned.
Upvoted. I forgot about this distro. I don’t like its neon style at all but it’s something different and pleasing for some people.
Hmm there is stuff like Archcraft (maybe it has a different name now idk) that is made specifically for visuals. In terms of usable distros I’d say Xero is the best I know. It seems to be discontinued though. CachyOS has some nice WM setups too but the appealing visuals can’t be consistent in that case because they are not full DEs and the unreasonably tiny calendar pop-up window from Xfce always ruins everything.
The original topic wasn’t about tax either.
Taxes are not the only things that matter, mister/miss. In the US you at least aren’t legally forced to use Windows and I’m not even talking about the fact that the US supports genocide. But who am I talking to? Americans are fully dead inside and won’t understand. There’s no way to revive them.
New to Linux
That’s the most obvious lie I’ve seen in a while. You could’ve at least made the setup look a bit worse or something so it’s possible for average users to somewhat believe it’s made by a new user. /s
Aren’t we talking about privacy and freedom as the main concerns here?
Well it surely is much much worse than my country by the looks of it.
The point of getting a separate device is similar to using a VPN - to use proprietary and invasive software without getting the personal data stored on the main devices sent to third parties. The business device still can send some data (like WiFi connection info, approximate location and microphone recordings) but the personal data should be safe. It may not be a viable option for very high threat models though since Windows can have backdoors that the government might use to inject malware into all the devices connected to the same network.
I think what you can do is just get a separate computer running Windows for all your business stuff and business stuff only. I’d also recommend ALWAYS using a VPN on it if legally possible.
Hmm I didn’t know the UK was THIS bad.
The bold parts include a false claim; i.e. Red Hat made RHEL paid..
Isn’t it? And for distro devs access to the source code is the only thing that matters. I am quite sure it is paid.
There’s no fault at being cautious, but this should never lead us towards toxic behavior.
I agree but I think you are the toxic one here. You boldly accuse a kinda new Linux user that asks a question in sharing misinformation and being toxic. I kinda get the first part but the second? You either don’t know what toxicity is or you’re just being toxic.
Xfce, LXQt or just install JWM and enjoy the 30 Mb idle RAM usage
