  • Most common maybe. I feel most windows users aren’t actively choosing to use windows. It’s just what they are left with.

People usually choose to use Linux or Mac. As Linux is rarely preinstalled or like Mac more expensive (when it comes preinstalled) than the windows devices for sale. I’m not convinced given a fair shake, windows would have the market share it does.

Servers have highly informed people making decisions about their operating systems. When weighing the options about uptime, security, etc they rarely choose windows. Cost isn’t really a factor relative to the price and operation of the server.

  • The UK never needed ID, there was no evidence of voter fraud happening at polling stations. So voter ID was introduced.

There has been evidence of voter fraud happening via postal votes where no id is required.

The UK doesn’t have any government ID, only ID by proxy like drivers license and passport. So poorer people and the elderly are less likely to have photo id. Only one group got an exception - the one that voted conservative.

The previous Scottish conservative leader committed electoral crimes live on TV. There was no consequences. But know people are further disincentivesed to vote, despite very little evidence of people fraudulent casting votes claiming to be someone else.

  • The big advantage of those three is you have it pre-installed. Pre-installed with forced defaults in very powerful.

I see people using edge, never realising that they’re using edge. Asking to install very expensive office 365 suites for very simple documents and power points. Word can’t even display text properly, most people don’t notice because they don’t know any different.

Linux needs a better Ubuntu. One all the Linux users can easily recommend. That manufacturers can be confident shipping on laptops.

Once that hurdle is cleared. The user has Linux pre-installed, the manufacturer provides all the necessary drivers. Linux is often easier to resolve issues with. The settings are clearer and better laid out, dependencies are better and easier to manage than windows. Solutions are easier to find and implement, they also don’t change unexpectedly.
