help-circle

  • Lemmy as a whole is pretty staunchly left and tolerant generally. Looking for things flagging themselves left here. Implies looking for the left of the left. Which ultimately leads to circle jerking and edgelord virtue signaling. It’s a bad time. Left can mean different things to different people. Drasticly so. If you consider yourself “left” look into some of their philosophies and see what resonates. Then look for communities based around that. You’ll likely have a much better time. And learn things in the process. Win win.

  • Are you sure this is actually the goal? Aid to developing countries from the west does not have a very good track record either.

Yes, there’s ample evidence of it. Actually aid wise the US has been rather decent. The Marshal plan etc has a pretty good track record. That said the US absolutely does meddle too much in the governance of many countries. Though generally those countries don’t get much aid to speak of. Either way it doesn’t matter. I never mentioned the United states. Even if the United States was worse at it. That doesn’t make China doing it right.

Obviously if China can build the economies of those countries, it would benefit China in the long run, while controlling an economy that runs at a deficit is not that attractive.

That specifically isn’t what China is doing. If they were pulling from the local populace, hiring people to hekp with the building and construction. That would be one thing. What they’re doing is using this to prop up their own economy. Bringing along Chinese workers. Building this for the countries and charging them for it. They will get to use it some. But more than anything it’s used to expand the Chinese economy. Not build other local economies. Outside of consumerism that is.

Controlling economies that operate at a deficit is very desirable for china. They want the resources located in many of these countries. What better way to get it than to have an in or to control the local government? If it didn’t make sense, the United States wouldn’t be trying to feel similar functions through different methods. It’s a form of soft power which is usually some of the best power. You don’t have to send people to war and kill people to get things done. It’s why corporations try to trap people in debt as well.

  • Yes I know our government in the United States has plenty of blood on its hands especially in South america. And as a socialist myself I automatically have sympathy for the Socialists. However I’m not ideologically anything per se at least not anything that’s incompatible with democracy. Something Maduro seems highly incompatible with.

I really wish we’d stay out of it especially announcing anyone as the winner. But by the same token I still want the receipts public and the will of the people represented even if it’s the far right party that won. Because otherwise you go down the path of leninism and all the damage they’ve done.

  • Authoritarians are authoritarian first. Everything else is a very distant second. I really hate when people call Marxist leninists/tankies fascist. They do a lot of the same things but there are distinct differences which makes one different from the other.

I think with the heavy resurgence of fascist politics around the globe right now. A lot of people sort of just learned the term Fascism and just randomly apply it to things it shouldn’t be. The truth is Marxist leninists are to tankies what Liberals are to fascism. And the funny thing is both groups will usually downvote that heavily LOL. Despite it being a basic fact of their general authoritarian Behavior.

  • Lemmy.ml federates with hexbear and grad. As a world user I don’t see hexbear and grad because world blocks them thankfully. Unless you are on server X what server X blocks in no way impacts what you see. So they need to petition their local admin.

That said. I think the only reason world still federates with lemmy.ml. is that so many open source projects communities are still there. They need to get moved off to proper instances like KDE or Mozilla have done. Or we need to start a dedicated instance for it.
