It’s more about personal principles and values, not self control. I make impulsive purchases all the time, but exactly 0% of them goes to scummy piece of shit corporations whose board of directors should be put on death row.

Officially the first account I block on lemmy. Ain’t no way this isn’t AI-generated rage bait.

3·3 days agoThey’ll probably release a new Series S as a streaming only console. And a new Series X, maybe with a disc drive. Gen after that it’ll be streaming only.

72·3 days ago…where you can pirate every single one of Sony’s games. And emulate not ported ones. Pirated too, of course. Pirate and seed even if you have no intention of playing.
Also, it’s a plain downgrade from Switch 1 OLED. Inferior screen, abysmal battery life. It’s just launch Switch 1 all over again. Except this time Switch OLED, Lite, and improved Switch base exist.
Nintendo is betting people will buy Switch 2, and then upgrade to a Switch 2 OLED later. So just don’t. If you really really want a Switch 2, wait for the OLED model. And ideally for homebrew, but most people don’t use it, sadly.
And so will all the others, maybe except Ubisoft.
I think this is about losing fans/customers, not necessarily losing money. Which is still a stretch with Steam. The Machine isn’t the best product, but it’s not harming anyone.
It’s kinda hard not to be depressed and to live without pills when you realize that practically all of the world’s problems are entirely artificial, and most could be solved in a manner of years.
If it wasn’t for bloodthirsty, sociopathic pedophiles and mass murderers, for whom the only objective in life is creating as much suffering as possible and raping as many children as possible.
Personally I bought a PS5 only to collect physical games and be able to play them. I’m not paying premium PS prices for temporary, digital access.
I think it’s safe to say this means PS6 will either be digital only, or heavily focused on digital. Which for me is a non-negotiable deal breaker.
PlayStation is pulling off the best marketing campaign Xbox could ever dream of.

12·7 days agoUnfortunately, probably not.
Our generation will die remembering his crimes, and the next generations will be fed propaganda about him in schools. As soon as in 50 years he’ll start being remembered positively. Unless serious changes happen to all sections of society.
This is nothing new. The entire recorded history, everything we learn in schools, went through this exact scheme.

World News@lemmy.world•China forgives $50 million of Sudan’s debt to ease economic strainEnglish
1·7 days agoTrue, but I think it’s more important to look at the smaller player here. It’s like a giant company sending you something free of charge just because. It’s nothing for them, but still a very nice gesture.
Also, yeah, the math was critically wrong. I’m aware.

1·7 days agoVery true. It’s 0.01% and not 1%. My bad. Still not an insignificant sum of money for a poorer country.
Edit: added missing zero, so that it’s actually correct this time. Third time’s the charm.
There was a big study the EU commissioned to show negative effects of piracy on sales of various media. When it concluded that there’s no negative impact, the EU decided not to release it. The only exception in the study were recent big movie releases, which did see significant (about 5%) financial losses due to piracy.
Link: https://www.engadget.com/2017-09-22-eu-suppressed-study-piracy-no-sales-impact.html
In 2016, the Technology Policy Institute looked at 25 piracy-related studies to analyze the combined data. According to them, there was a negative effect shown in 22 out of 25 studies. However, they also noted that it’s a very complex question, and that the results were ‘economic theory inconclusive’.
When you take a look at these studies, you will very quickly notice a trend. They’re always published by big, very much pro-copyright corporations. They use vague terms and employ questionable methodology.
A study showing a positive impact of piracy on video game sales (but negative for music). Music and movies seem to be the most likely to actually suffer from piracy.
While it may be difficult to gauge whether piracy is overall beneficial or harmful to any industry, it seems to be quite clear that for video games specifically, it does not present any threat to sales.
Bonus: several successful studios are getting closed, and others will face layoffs. Because it literally doesn’t make a difference how well a game performs. If it’s a big corporation - layoffs will continue happening.

World News@lemmy.world•China forgives $50 million of Sudan’s debt to ease economic strainEnglish
22·7 days agoMaybe for rich countries. Sudan’s GDP is $44.69 billion as of 2026. $50 million is more than 1% of its GDP. That’s a lot more than nothing.
Can you imagine some country forgiving France a debt 1% of its GDP? That’d be over $30 billion.
Paid actor or just retard?
There’s clear data showing piracy almost never has a negative impact on sales. If anything, it’s usually a positive impact. And the exceptions to this are not video games.
Don’t kid yourself. The artists will get fired either way. Whether or not the game sells well will not change anything. Aside from the point above.
Anti-piracy advocates like you are the cancer of the gamer community. You’re doing absolutely nothing for the world, but spewing corporate propaganda that is based on nothing but the words of an ultra rich pedophile.
It’s like trying to boycott Nestle.
Sooo, like… entirely possible with some effort?
Piracy isn’t stealing either way, but this slogan is good. We need more people to pirate than ever before.
Why is Netflix on the list??
Because it does make games and is part of the anti-stopkillinggames lobby.
And why is Riot on the list?
Shit game company in general. Also part of the lobby if I remember correctly.
ESL is an e-sports organisation, they do e-sport events, they don’t make games. Why are they on the list?
This one I’m not sure. Probably part of the lobby as well? Can’t confirm right now, but a lot ot companies you haven’t even heard about are lobbying against it.
You’re both idiots.
One guy doesn’t understand how video-sharing platforms work at all. The other is perfectly happy being a good little consumer for youtube, and doing nothing about it.
Yes, everything you do on youtube is beneficial for… youtube. Including watching with ad blocking and sponsor blocking. But it’s also beneficial for the creators, who may be very nice people, and who may deserve something for their work.
How about throwing your favourite creators an email with short instructions on how to mirror their content to an alternative platform, as well as reasons why you’d greatly appreciate it? Takes maybe 15 minutes the first time, and may actually lead to lasting change. Instead of pretending you’re acting on values and not convenience, while comfortably sitting on your lazy ass, watching everything burn or turn to garbage.
If either of you actually dislikes youtube and/or wants change to happen or alternatives to grow - move your butts and something about it. Based on the comments here, you’re both just contributing to the perpetuation of youtube’s enshitification, and google’s control over the internet in general. While arguing which side is worse. Dumb infighting, and even dumber reasons for it.
Yep. The genocide stopped the second the USA declared independence. It did not continue for even a second after that, and there wasn’t a single other genocide since then.
Truly perfect comment to write on July 4th. Uncle Sam would be proud of you. If you also massacred a bunch of children, that is.
